What happened during filming and what could be done through post production to help improve the outlook of our music video?
On Saturday October 12th 2013, our group filmed our music video for our final project. We picked up our equipment on the day prior to filming and spent around an hour or so beforehand setting up our filming location.
Because our music video is a house party, we needed a large group of people as well as ourselves there to help create the party atmosphere. The initial worry with this was that many people we had invited to our "party" had other commitments on the night of filming and were unable to make it. However, we had enough people there in the end to make it convincing. Before they arrived and after we had set up, we filmed some external shots to make a party atmosphere with balloons, glow sticks and party poppers. We also took some shots of playing pool, shot glasses and some lip synching. These were done in the daylight but it contrasts with the night time shots we took for the core of the music video. The rainy weather restricted our idea of taking some shots outside.
What went well?
The people who turned up for our music video were very professional and cooperative which made the filming more efficient and easier to film. Charlie, our main protagonist, played a very good part and was convincing helping us enhance our narrative for the video. We did the same shots and scenarios from different angles which is helping us in the post production stage as we can cut from one angle to another efficiently. Finally, the overall mise-en-scene was good as our location looked like a party due to the little lighting and props such as balloons and glow sticks.
What could have been improved?
Due to the weather, we were unable to do the opening the way we initially planned. We did film the introduction we wanted, but we didn't do as many shots as desired. Despite the efficiency of our extras, the music video scenes were shot in no particular order so it may make post production more difficult as the music video may not have a continuing progression and some shots may be shorted than required. Our location was in Illarna's sun room so the tripod and camera may be visible in some of the shots. The window behind the sofa also reflects extras who were standing behind the camera at the time of filming that particular shot.
