Angles

Angles

There are different angles that will be good for us to use in our music video. Most of these angles mention below have been seen in many music videos and so it would be beneficial to use them.

Angles can help convey different meanings for the audience. This is all possible through the position of the camera.

Eye Level angle
A Eye level angle is the most common angle that is used in a music video. It doesn't put a further perspective on the object/subject as we are seeing it as it is. In Ariana Grande's music video "Right There" A perfect example of a eye level angle is this below.
This is a low angle shot, where you see the Ariana Grande walking down the stairs. This connotes her importance as she is in royal gowns and appears to be the highest person in the room. However the Eye Level shot of Ariana Grande connotes that she has nothing to hide here and that she is meaning what she is singing.

High angle shot
a high angle shot is where the camera is positioned so that they look down at the object/subject.
In Ariana Grande's music video "Right There" A perfect example of a high angle shot is this below.

As you can see the high angle shot makes the subject look innocence and it is connoted with his soft smile expression. The high angle shot can make the object/subject small, demeaning and less powerful in comparison to the low angle shot.

Low angle shot
a low angle shot is where the camera is positioned so they are looking up at the object/subject. In Ariana Grande's music video "Right There" A perfect example of a low angle shot is this below.

As you can see the camera is connoting that Big Sean is important which is supported with his costume, as he is dressed as a high priest. The low angle shot could convey respect because a priest is seen as an important figure. Low angle shots presents the object/subject to come across as powerful and dominant.

Bird's eye View
A bird's eye view shows the object/subject directly above the camera. In Eminem's music video "Love the way you lie" you can see the bird's eye view in effect. It gives the audience a clear view of whats going on than if it was another angle shot.

Canted Angle

A canted image is when the camera tilts to one side. In Eminem's music video "Love the way you lie" you can see the canted angle in effect. This connotes the rockiness of the relationship as tilting towards the woman side shows the control the woman has over the man.
