My group was introduced to the list of tracks we are able to use for our final project. We then narrowed it down to 3 choices:
1. In The Bag by Wiley (ft Labrinth)
Ideas discussed within our group included adding a comedic value to the video. That would involve a house party where the guests dress up as animals and the rapper will "have it in the bag" as the song suggests and turn up in normal attire. This would convey a different take on the lyrics making it more appealing to the audience of the song's genre. Andrew Goodwin's Music Video Conventions which we have studied closely in class would come into use in this video as we would amplify the lyrics.
2. Ten Thousand Hours by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
The idea for this project would be a group of people on a journey to a set place meaning it would be more concept and less narrative. It would highlight the lyrics in a creative way. The shots we would use would be a close up to hands to fit in with the chorus. However, this would involve filming several shots in several different locations at various hours of the day and could be quite time consuming.
3. Love and War by Rita Ora (ft J Cole)
This project would be like a typical post break up video. The protagonist in the video would be the singer who has had a conflict with her boyfriend which would end up in a lot of smashed glass in slow motion and close up shots highlighting her pain. The simple lyrics would allow us to create an easy story line making the video have a narrative which is a common factor in many modern music videos. We could also use a variety of effects and interesting locations in this project. However, the idea would clash with existing music videos of a similar style.
