Conventions of magazine adverts for albums - Jessie J

Typical conventions of magazine adverts:

  • Release date
  • Artist image(s)
  • A selection of song titles (usually the chart singles)
  • Name of album
  • Artist name
  • Star rating/reviews
  • Where to buy music/see artist
  • Chart successes
  • Price
  • Short interview with band

The representation of the artist/band:

The representation of Jessie J in this particular magazine advert shows her as quiet edgy, this is perhaps because it is her debut album and she wishes to make a statement and stand out amongst many other similar artists such as herself in the industry. The magazine advert itself however is quiet basic and typical, it displays all the typical information such as artist and album title, but other than that it doesn't really surprise or shock the viewer.

The representation of genre:

The black and gold colour scheme used in this magazine advert portray Jessie J as a typical Pop/RnB artist and gives it a harsh look. You can tell this by the neat layout and structure of the advert.

Branding:

Jessie J's signature hairstyle is shown in this advert. This is how her fans recognise her.
