Wretch 32 is a classic example of a grime artist. This is a music magazine advertisement used to promote his latest album. Even if you are not aware of Wretch 32, you can tell by the colours, fonts and style that he is an urban artist. Music magazines are a good way to promote an artist as it is worth billions and promotes their upcoming single, album or tour to a wider audience. The advert however is less informative than any other form of promotion as it gives simply the artist name, title of album/tour, the release date and the retailers. For example, if the advert was for a CD like the one shown above, it would state the places in which you can buy the media (e.g: iTunes, hmv, Napster etc).
A typical feature of a music magazine advert of this particular genre is the artist dominating the frame usually positioned in the centre of the page. The image of Wretch 32 is simple yet romantic so it can portray him as a role model due to his style. The advert also states the artists who have helped with making the album which will appeal to fans of those artists. The colours, spray paint effect and picture of the apartment block in the background show that Wretch 32 is an urban artist. Something as simple as the colours can determine an artist's persona and genre. A small photo of the album in full is usually shown in the bottom corner to display to the viewer what the whole album looks like.
Other forms of marketing and advertisements
Another example of a grime artist is Tinchy Stryder. Unlike the first advert, this magazine was presumedly featured on a billboard as street or "guerilla" marketing. This particular advert is a lot simpler in terms of words and text. Take Me Back was Tinchy's first single and you can tell through the choice of image that Tinchy is proud. You can determine this through his body language and the way his head is titled to the side with shades on. Although this is a street advert, something short and simple portrays an artist well regardless of it's location.
Examples from similar genres (Hip-Hop, RnB, rap etc):
These particular magazine adverts took my liking due to the titles fitting appropriately with the style of the artist in which the advert promotes. I also like the choice of colours and in case of the Kanye West advert, the simplicity of it.
