What are Record Labels?
Record labels are a brand or trademark that market music recordings and music videos. Depending on the size of the record label, you tend to see them managing the production, manufacturing, distribution, marketing and promotion and the copyright of the music recordings and videos. They are always looking for new artist so they hire talent scouts to search for their next star and renewing contracts with their current artists.Recording labels have been a great way of promoting artists and gaining a higher fan base but now with new technology like the internet, new artists have found other ways to promote themselves to gain an audience like through YouTube. This way is very efficient as they are able to avoid high costs.
Records labels for our genre are normally founded by semi famous grim artists who have released albums and have crack the charts more than once.
Different types of record labels?
There are two major types of record labels. These are Indie (Independent) record labels or Major record labels.You also have subsidiary record labels
Major record labels
Major record labels expect worldwide success. This is why they have big budgets on promotionIndependent record labels
Independent record labels don't have a big budget like major record labels do. Instead they intend to save money. Most of the time they may record at home with their own equipment instead of using an expensive studio.Record labels for our genre

This is ideal for our artist because this record label is for grime artists and so with our artist being from the grime genre, it helps them be acquainted with a company that has been in the business for years. This record label have also had artist like Skepta who have broken into the mainstream charts. This is ideal for our artist as they have also broken into the mainstream charts. This would benefit the company as they can promote other artist from their record label.
